Spring 2011

Sapucai - The Wild Side of Costumes

Atlanta, Georgia... From the colorful fairytale of "Androgyny" comes the most elaborate collection of costumes ever seen. "Sapucai - The Wild Side of Costumes," coming in the spring of 2011.

"Sapucai - The Wild Side of Costumes" is an hour and half show that will showcase a collection of over 100 lavish costumes, fabulous characters, glamour, dance, and a entire spectrum of colors.

True to form for Designer Jarbas Pereira's show, describing the plot is impossible. Consequently, "Sapucai - The Wild Side of Costumes" is an invitation to tour the wonderful world of costumes, a world where the lines of fantasy and reality cross and where the imagination goes only as far as you want it to go.

In the opening, this battle of good vs. evil depicts some of JP's most evocative costumes, specially the notorious Ebony & Ivory; a 15-by-15-foot harness covered with over 3,000 black and white peacock feathers and more than 1,000 ostrich feathers yet weighting only 25 pounds.

Following the battle, where the winner is anyone's guess, comes a segment of harmony, proportion, and symmetry in both the dancers and the costumes. Although saturated by a single color, this segment echo's a vigorous performance.

In addition, Pereira's bold and provocative segment "Moulin Rouge"s is no ordinary fairytale. This collection sets the action on stage with colorful skirts and feather headdresses.

Each segment is brilliant in its own way, but performed as a strikingly matched show.
